so like the ripples in the river deep

your love sashays through

the shadows and shoals of my heart

 

although the years have changed me

and the uphill climbs aren’t as easy

the profound truth is

you still fit into my definition of love

Damn, damn, damn...your poetry always hits the nail squarely on the head of meaning and cleverness. Ok, that didn't sound right, let me try again...wow..."you still fit into my definition of love" Now, how cool is that. We do age, we change, appearance, stamina, whatever but, in our eyes and hopefully in their eyes, we are the same person they fell in love with and would be willing to do so all over again. Ok. still not that great of a comment. Loved this Lydi!!! How's that?

Dear Lydi, these words were so beautiful to picture in my mind. Love felt like springing from eternal wellsprings deep in the riverbed. I loved that feeling. This poem is very special as it touches both the expansive and special aspects of love in that it sashays through the boundless depths of the heart and yet fits so beautifully in a beloved's unique definition. You are such a consummate writer on love. I have never read a more nuanced poet than you when it comes to romantic poetry. Kudos my friend!

i hear this and feel it, Lydi ... to have such a lasting relationship of love is truly a gift .. requiring comittment and mutual deep respect .. love taken root and carefully, faithfully tended blossoms in ways unknown in our youth .. the pic is super impressive and the abstractness is perfect .. a perfect fit .. i see, along with your poem, a rich life that traversed many a mountain, rocky ravine and deep waters that broke the "definition" enough times to have learned that love is a MANY splendored thing ;) so enjoyed the trip .. thanks for sharing

Ahh, I see that by posting this on a Friday night (your time, but Saturday morn here) you could sneak this little gem past me, didn't you? But I was up with the larks and it was on top of my newsfeed list, so it stuck out like a big sticky out thing, on national "stick out more than usual day!!" 😊
