this silly cabaret

this silly cabaret

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

in the silence of a summer swelter
i try to translate the rain
certain it holds a message
meant only for me
but it whispers too softly
for me to decipher the words
since the soundtrack of my life
is currently being performed by the whitecaps
the arrogant sun
is editing the notes
the cabal of cacophony continues
till i am sure i will disappear
without anyone every truly understanding
this silly cabaret

That picture beckons yet, has a haunted, statue-still face, hair askew, tight lips as if lost in another place, numb. Your words are ice berg sad,

' i am sure i will disappear
without anyone every truly understanding
this silly cabaret'

Leaving you a hug if I may, dear lady.

I am not an unbiased reader, but it seems your cabaret is far from silly. ~Jim

Painting a picture of a summer day filled with silence and sweltering heat. Wow 🥹a chef kiss 💋 to the overall piece.

Dear Lydi**, stunning artwork to accompany your fine lines. We have had no summer swelter here recently on this side of the pond, though we have had plenty of rain and far more forecast for the month of August. You dear Lydi** write with such feeling. I sense some negativity here without understanding why. I hope all is well with you. All good wishes.

like the song croons - life is a cabaret. the shore is certainly the place to be this summer amidst the swelter and antics. i really like this - terrific poetry making its mark in the sand ... :)

I love a rainy night. I can sleep like a baby. I liked the honest thoughts dear Lydia. A cabaret of rain drops. A beauty of a sort. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

I too try to decipher the rain Lydi, but this is Scotland and even this fine morning the rain has decided to be more like a kid throwing a tantrum with a pair of bongos at what parents call the terrible two's stage. If I listen closely enough, every rain drop sounds like "DROWN'EM" as they explode on the ground. I don't know what I've done to offend the rain gods, or indeed the sun gods, but I would just like to say to them "Gimme a break guys! I bought a whole new summer wardrobe and I'm still wearing my waterproofs when I should be wearing sun lotion!" 😊
We can't complain... Much though, as we have been saved from the scorching temperatures turning most of Europe into something like cooking pancakes in an inferno... Extra crispy!
The only time we lot (Rlthe Scots) are happy is with the idea of a nice beach holiday, but when we get there we just complain its too hot and pour beer on our corn flakes to cool down.
The sun is very arrogant. Almost like a kid with a magnifying glass torturing ants and giving no thought whatsoever to the hell that the older generations feel during these strangest of days where everything feels like we're melting.
Good to see your pen hasn't yet burst into flame Lydi. 😊

nice alliteration...and you will never disappear...people understand the sun but only a few of us understand the rain.
a poet thing.
and the sun is too arrogant for its own good...especially on these sweltering hot days.
nicely done, Lydi.

This sounds like a hot and steamy day in Fl., on the beach, walking on the sand, hearing the crashing of white frothy waves. All these elements make some people enjoy this uniqueness, hence the name: Sunshine state. Lovely poem and paying. Enjoy summer.
