quiet entrance

quiet entrance

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by tom fedro

wearing a lipstick shade called “fairytale”

i wait

and yet i am unsure for what

eternal youth morphed into a myth long ago

now i'm essentially reduced

to act as the broken arrow in sir gallahad’s quiver

forever imprisoned by emotions

even I do not understand

so here i wait

in what surely is negative space

merely sharing a border with positive space

never daring to brush up against the boundary

being silent while the world respects cacophony

still wearing that fairytale lipstick

as the weekend makes a quiet entrance

For some reason your poem brought a wash of melancholy over me and I don't wear lipstick. I mean, Lydi, talk about poetically painting a picture of time passing before our eyes. The broken arrow in Gallahad's quiver...that one hurt. Though, once again, your art, your creativity and how you craft these poems is amazing. I loved this, even if it did leave me feeling a bit over-wrinkled. : )

Before I came and reviewed this I wanted to say, I love your choice from the comment on your profile! Queen is awesome, and that’s one of their best lyrics! I loved this poem. ‘Wearing an lipstick shade called fairytale’ is such a great starting line. I can’t help but relate to this. It feels like waiting and waiting for you turn and I get that. Imprisoned by the dark and you can see the light, but you can’t get to it. The pent up feelings… you wrote it so well, it’s very palpable. Amazing work. Thank you for sharing.

Everything is fine here, Carlos....I hope you can say the same.
Imprisoned emotions feel the freedom to come out. They can be of our making or forced on us by many reasons. We all carry some type of emotional baggage, traveling with them here and there, to known or unknown destination. This was sad and beautiful. Painting is marvelous...
