ceding power

ceding power

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by jeremy young

you are a perennial flower

watered with my heart and soul

a multi-colored blossom

surprising me…the passerby

a gentle languid wave licking my toes

before disappearing

into the vastness of the sea

a dim light peeking through the clouds

just enough to give me hope

will you allow me to wrap myself

in the silk and gossamer of you

or will you leave me standing in the shadows

alone again

watching the sun cede power to the moon

will you leave me standing in the shadows alone again

That line tells the reader of the hurt felt and the question being asked. There is an aloofness here which has replaced once such tender feelings. Trust once broken can be difficult to regain. Such depth of feeling here lydi**. Your posted artwork is stunning and reflects well the emotion in your lines. Good to read you. Hope you are well.

We can find hope in many things - and many people - if we can find the courage to take a step forward. Interaction with others, and with nature, adds purpose to our lives. A beautifully expressed poem, Lydi!

Thanks so much, Robert. Lydi**
This was really beautiful. It has such a delicate ache of uncertainty near the end, like a hand offered in friendship that hopes it isn't turned away. May you never find yourself lacking in hope and fulfillment of your dreams. I very much enjoyed the read. F.

Ah, I've missed your words Lydi. Such beautiful words. I've been safe at home all day, as the rain pounds the ground, leaving me with hope, as watching rain from a safe warm place does. Plus, lots of puddles to splash in tomorrow 😊

Whoeeee! So romantic and full of love calling. Imagery is splendid. Marvelous intentions intended. Off to the sea projected.
Art work is highly powerful.

I have the eye for it. You are welcome LYdia...
let nature nurture us ....if we let it, if we treat it with respect, it will.

toward the end, I thought of Gilbert O'Sullivan...."Alone Again Naturally"---

the flower is like a lover.
and this poem is lovely,
j.
