a ribbon of light

a ribbon of light

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by susan lyon

a ribbon of light winds its way

Into my “almost awake” time

i hug the tangled sheet

a smile plays on my lips

thinking of when I hugged you last

when my senses were drenched

by the spicy-sweet smell of your cologne

you had me thinking thoughts

never before dreamed of

feeling emotions i only experienced

in the pages of a book

realistically i know

that was decades ago

but this morning

It all danced through

a ribbon of light

What a beautiful thought - almost hypnotic, watching, losing, finding and then focussed on

' .. you had me thinking thoughts
never before dreamed of
feeling emotions i only experienced
in the pages of a book.

(had to search for one of your poems I'd not reviewed!) Must find more. :)

A wistful and tender poetic piece. Warm nostalgia emanates from your lines of verse here, Lydi**. There may be some sadness, but meaningful memories are always worth keeping!

Absolutely, Robert! Thank you so much for the review. Lydi**
You paint a clear picture of an embrace vividly remembered through images and the reference to the sense of smell that triggers the most powerful memories. Very nice!

Thanks so much, Richard. LydI**
dancing, dancing, dancing....as do all of your love poems...your book is sensational, and you just keep pouring out the romance, the passion...the poems that engage us as we read, giving us the feeling that we are in that very relationship you speak of.
