truth

created from thoughts of the moment

like a weaver at the loom

we each create our own truth

knotting concept to concept

word to word

then planting and nurturing that truth

 

scattered seeds of opinions of others

can help to make the truth bloom

or can just as easily stifle its growth

 

an invisible line divides

your truth from mine

yours lives in yesterday

and mine leaps into tomorrow

 

to keep the peace

i might accept your truth

even handle it gently

but for now

agreement is not in my repertoire

Everyone's version of the truth is different.... perhaps there is no truth to begin with, it's a story we weave together to help us understand what could be held as true.

The last stanza

agreement is not in my repertoire" couldn't have been more true, sometimes we can't see the other person's perspective... but sometimes we learn to accept another person's version of the truth. Interesting topic for a poem and great picture to go with it! I might see a lady in that picture, but someone else might just see shapes. Both of them are true, but you have to change your perspective to get both truths.

The only real truth resides in what can be proven. Those things we refer to as facts. The opinions or beliefs of others may make their perspective and life experience different from yours or mine. What they perceive as truth or you or I may seem like fact to us but not to others. As a transcendentalist I believe that many things in the physical realm are mere representations of greater spiritual or intellectual axioms. They apply across a wide range of circumstances and provide an immutable base effect from which to build. Even science has its hypothesis. For that reason experiments are conducted. Some "laws" of physics have been disproven to apply equally throughout the universe by astrophysicists, for example. What we "know" and what we THINK we "know" are not always the same. But the actual "truth" will always withstand scrutiny and for that reason I believe all things should be tested and that which is true should be retained until it is disproven. Thank you for the thought invoking write. I enjoyed the read.

"truth", what a philosophical conundrum... it often gets confused with opinion.... there may be many opinions about a subject, but there is only one truth.... something is either true or it is not and what someone's opinion is does not make something true.... but unfortunately, in today's world, a lie (let's not mince words) told and repeated often enough becomes "truth".... gone is the test of proof, the integrity of examination, the fearless search for knowledge, understanding (no matter where that might lead).... replaced with the lowest, easiest seemingly simplest of answers..... "my truth", "your truth" is but the reflection of a me first, egocentric social system and society codified into the law of the land....

what I love about this poem of yours Lydi is it's examination, in a very artistic way (including as some one pointed out the cubistic art work introducing this poem) the way 'truth" is seen and utilized.... the contrast between past and future; about "agreement and disagreement" and how we decide to "agree to disagree"....

you know that I have always appreciated your poetry, its artistic flair and for its value to helping us humans to be more human and humane.... so reaching from the past and into the future, I say it's a very NICE poem....

This poem made me smile, even though it deals with a serious subject. We all have our own version of the truth - on certain subjects at least - and in these days of "fake news" and political spin, the "truth" can be a tough bone to chew on. Then there are people who would rather believe some far-fetched conspiracy theory than accept a simple truth. We have to use our own eyes, ears and minds - and question things. After all, at one time everyone thought the world was flat! A few people still do... lol! I enjoyed the read!

I think the subjectivity of "truth" lessens the absolute value of it .. these days in which we live in America .. are rife with an even worse thing .. the bending of truth by those who use to uphold it in their "proclamations and presentations" .. our inglorious news people ... ugh! we will all see our own truths in your poem Lydi ... something it allows .. as we all should between each other .. love your stuff baby! ;)
