is it okay for me to have selective memory?
i mean monochrome days do become rainbows sometimes
don't they?
yes, yes, it's true
midnight came and went
my carriage did not turn into a pumpkin
but i still believed
the clouds asked me questions
the raindrops did not answer
still i had faith
i still loved the orange-red-pink sunsets
and still saw your face in the clouds
the thing is
i have a pocketful of memories
and another filled with wishes
today i made a choice
to cherish them both

How wonderful your words are in this. It brought back memories of my mother and all the happy times we shared, looking at sunsets, watching the birds, planting flowers and just sitting on the porch in the summer talking until the fireflies came out. It is quite okay to not only have those selective memories but to cherish them as well. Here's to wishes and memories and dreams that may come true. Bless. F.

As long as the memories heavily outweigh the wishes then I think (as long as they are mainly good) that a life has been lived well.
I love this conversational kinda writing, more so when done this well.

This is beautiful. Pain and the question of why, mixed together with memories and wishes. Giving the writer strength for the day.

It is sad that we are given limited time to exist in this world of endless possibilities. That are choices are fractions compared to the overseer called time. But if we were granted immortality would we have a greater appreciation for accomplishments? Would we be indifferent to all that we do because it would just be monotonous actions of commonality? Reality dictates wishes rarely happen and if they were common in occurrence we would have no reason to ever know Hope. And appreciate the blessings given. Wonderful poem Lydi that reveals why we should be grateful of these things.

I love your message, as always, expressed in colorful conversational ways. Such is the balancing act of us old farts, not letting memories or regrets get the best of us (((HUGS)))

Indeed, we can. Thank you, Duff. Lydi**
I feel as if growing up, your memory becomes more and more selective, each person getting to choose the reality that they live in. Some people still wish for fairytales, some wish for a life full of abundance. This is such an interesting way to almost pull yourself out of this fairytale-like world but still acknowledge that you have those same hopes and dreams and remembering to, as you said, "cherish them both"

It is absolutely okay to have selective memory. I think that's the key to sanity. This is such a profound bit of verse. It incorporates wisdom as well as innocence. Believing in fairy tales but also choosing to appreciate what you have experienced. I really enjoyed this!
