apologist

apologist

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by house of maria/maria oosthuizen

like time lapsed photography
the years have flown
days fell out of my pockets
leaving holes in my favorite jeans
and my heart
lyrics of old songs floated by
with some of the words missing
(then again words can weigh me down)
knowing salt water stings my eyes
i jump into the waves anyway
i'm shocked my cold heart is growing soft
till at the right angle of omissions and admissions
i become the apologist to myself

Your poetry is always top-notch. It holds lots of meaning, imagery and truth. The heart is a well for many of our deep emotions. An apologist to the self is becoming so aware of things past, present. It is seeking forgiveness. A great healing process.

Time and distance make us braver. We must jump into the waves again. Thank you dear friend for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.

what an empathis and beautiful write Lydi. I think two things go when you get to my age. The first is your memory and I can't remember what the second thing is..
The only constant is change and this is a lovely way of making the point.

Particularly taken by those lines Lydi** and also soft hearts are more forgiving than cold ones. There is much to contemplate here in this piece. Your posted artwork as usual so carefully selected to accompany your fine lines.
