asymmetry

asymmetry

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by michael and inessa garmash

how boring the symmetry of life can be
today will be the same as tomorrow
and the day after
the condensation on my water glass
is the most exciting thing i will see today
the noise of familiars is deafening
so i ponder minutia
what supports the blue of the sky?
will my mundane thoughts rust in the ho-hum rain?
the day will sigh as it floats into the past
sans exceptional moments

no, give me the asymmetry
the imbalance of life forcing me to hang on
the shimmering geometrics of stress
the whispers of infinite possibility
the fluttering of my heart
as i fight the waves of the ocean
never wanting to reach the shore

Well this is a treat to read - I often think of how I get so scared with normality - I think you are lucky you will always have and escape in your words - and gee whizzer your words are done so well. I think I wrote a poem just like this a while back - yours seems terribly poetic compared to mine - take care Lidi XX

there is a certain perfectness about asymmetry that I can not personally explain .. but I know exists .. give me something a little off kilter and it can feel like bliss .................. your poem and the page on which it sits is a fine example of this peculiar phenomenon Lydi** ................. ........... my pleasure, treasure :)
I have never wanted asymmetry more in my life than now. This is getting so boring...
And I must really be boring because I find it pretty exciting to watch that condensation grow.
Says a lot about me doesn't it?
you express so fluently here what we are all feeling...it's breakout time...it has to be, soon.

Hello dear Lydia. New world. A lot of time to ponder and think.
"what supports the blue of the sky?
will my mundane thoughts rust in the ho-hum rain?
the day will sigh as it floats into the past
sans exceptional moments"
I liked the honest tone of the above lines. Life is today and sometime yesterday can steal our thoughts. I try to go forward for the family and I hope I can find reason and purpose. I hope you are doing well my dear friend. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
