A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by Michael and Inessa Garmash

i hear you singing
from another world
and it's always a love song
sweet and melodious
filling me with a warmth
that's never quite gone
tonight
i smelled the rain
before it fell
and i watched for the rainbow
certain you would paint it for me
you did not disappoint
the vibrant red and orange
began to do the wave
while the yellow and green danced
to your love song
the blue stood patiently waiting
for the indigo and violet to catch up
and i sat mesmerized
remembering

beautiful moment ... pulled me in and kept me in it with skillful delight .. could put so many in as the one singing .. blessed connections to the spirit of those gone from earth .. through the music of a rainbow .. the progression of colors is so clever, creative and unique says i .. i especially am captivated by the "...orange ... began to wave" ... and that she smells the rain before it falls .. just delightful and calming, your poem is .. glad i did not miss it!

Music, artwork, love.. what more can a poet need to feel so intensely. Your memories aren't shadows they are complete, touching - physically and spiritually. , Lydi?! The way you express that past relationship is inspiring and beautiful, whoever it was shared with.

' i hear you singing ~ from another world ~ and it's always a love song ~ sweet and melodious ~ filling me with a warmth ~ that's never quite gone.. ' And, my friend, at a guess, it never will. Beautiful.

Take care, keep safe.

I think of Donovan's song "Colors"

"Yellow is the color of my true love's hair, in the morning when we rise"

I agree with Chris...the artwork adds so much to the poetry...

"I smelled the rain/ before it fell"---love those lines, Lydi.
nicely done...you do romantic poetry with the best of them.

Thank you very much, Sil. Stay well. Lydi**
Poignant and beautiful Lydi**. How lovely to hear a love song, sung by someone so very dear who has passed over. I imagined the notes bringing the colours of her back. Vibrant as she had been in life. You got lost in her memory and I can understand that. Very nicely penned. Your posted artwork so pleasing.
