i want to be

i want to be

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by ohmuller8
the rain dressed the garden
in an iridescent outfit fit for the ball
last night
the flowers woke up
ready to dance the night away
but the palms were still
they knew the thrill was gone
ground to mere dust
the streets were empty
and faces were masked
corona spilled into our world
like a bitter kiss
yet the stars still sparkled
and the flowers still danced
i want to be a flower

So true! So true! Living in the wilderness, I see the "other side" to the covid coin -- the one where nobody wears protection becuz we are free spirits & we'll keep our distance, mostly (but sometimes we forget) -- kinda like the birds & the bees. I love how your poem ends in a burst of longing for this life of nature where critters have no idea what the human covid issue might be! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

dearest Lydi.... so far it seems that Nature still
lives freely... the Moon and Stars still shine and the
flowers bloom. We do feel like a flower when we walk in our own yard
and breathe the air that Birds breathe... but then they can fly high and above the mystery of the Virus... Love the beginning of your poem.
It rather reminds me of Cinderella dressed for the Ball... but then at Midnight
the spell would be broken. Now we are searching for the proper "Fit" for the
Virus that will be a Vaccine... one fits all. Lovely poetry full of Hope on the Horizon.
Absolutely a Work of Art from the Heart... delicate as a Rose. gently, Pat

I would like to be a flower too Lydi**. Your lines made me think of Wordsworth and daffodils. A host of golden daffodils dancing in the breeze. No social distancing, no covid and no election fall out to worry about. You are right though, we still have the stars to look at. Some very beautiful imagery here. I hope you are well. Keep safe my friend.
