the rain dressed the garden

in an iridescent outfit fit for the ball

last night

the flowers woke up

ready to dance the night away

but the palms were still

they knew the thrill was gone

ground to mere dust

the streets were empty

and faces were masked

corona spilled into our world

like a bitter kiss 

yet the stars still sparkled

and the flowers still danced

i want to be a flower

So true! So true! Living in the wilderness, I see the "other side" to the covid coin -- the one where nobody wears protection becuz we are free spirits & we'll keep our distance, mostly (but sometimes we forget) -- kinda like the birds & the bees. Oh yes, the only non affected, is the nature. They can swing, bounce and carry the happy smile as they were doing before this corona. They are the blessed one, really enviable. A very beautiful poem

I love that art work at the top of your poem, reminds me of a flower I saw once growing out of the concrete
in the alley way of a Brooklyn high rise.... how beauty can be found even in the harshest conditions.... human desire, found in an imaginative mind can give root to flowers in the concrete or flowers amidst a pandemic... and I would think that creative minds could see the flowers within social consciousness and responsibility to each other over the self centered "I have the right to"....

Lydi, your poem has the twinkle of stars shining and flowers growing with the "niceness" of hope....

Such a beautiful perspective to take when all around us is beauty that for most acts only as passing scenery flitting by as our own internal worries consume such beauty when it/ we need it most of all.
