night falls

night falls

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by fabian perez

the hem of the sun kisses the horizon
mother nature gently nudges the world into evening
the stress of the day lays drying
on this morning's news
there is a sort of ironic harmony here
my mind's eye sees images of long ago
of desire, cravings, yearnings
sensual heat
till, with the impetus of a crescendo
night falls
proving no matter how mundane or exciting life is
the calendar page does indeed turn

I didn't know whether to ooh or ahh at that ending Lydi, so instead I made the entirely new noise of Ahhoohhh 😀
This is the epitome of subtleness setting the pace and flow seamlessly to a most deserved ahhoohhh last line.
Slow and sensual beats speed reading every time 😀

the days, years pass and we have the memories of what was but what will be is allusive even if exciting or mundane, though I think we will take exciting every time... there is a "settling" or "acceptance" of what is in your poem Lydi... which in many ways is the best we can do even when we plan and want something more or different.... life is what it is and we face all the things that life throws at us.... my hope is that the "hem of the sun kisses the horizon" in ways that ease your desires and fulfills your dreams... you do write really "nice" poetry Lydi....

I must confess Lydi ... I have peeked under the hem of the sun as it kisses the horizon ... didn't heed Springsteen's warning. Right now Mother Nature is not gently nudging the world into evening ... she's battering our afternoon with a series of terrific thunderstorms.
Spent the night calming a terrified dog.

An excellent write with a right proper touch of sensuality that reads soft as nightfall.
Well done. Stay safe.

And the pages keep turning with little help from ourselves. They also turn quicker as we age. Your opening line is stunning Lydi**. Night Falls is beautiful poetry and speaks to me about aging, reflection and also living. Your posted artwork too, worthy of admiration. Always a pleasure reading you.

I would love to pen two lines as exquisite as your opening! A stand-out visual among billions of sunset descriptions penned by the less imaginative! Also, I love that you use such vivid visceral details to illustrate how the days carry on despite our wishing time could slow down or hold still (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
