between the lines

between the lines

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

a friday night write....on this tropical stormy day in south florida

"

artwork by konstatin razumov

poised for the perfect seduction
my words smile
knowing they are
worth waiting for
slowly falling off one shoulder
then the other
stray consonants caress bare skin
vowels sway in fondled shadows
illicit redundancies have their way
with superfluous syllables
having no rhetorical purpose whatsoever
unless of course you consider
temptation
which is always there between the lines
n’est pas?
the gossamer veil of youth
will slide seductively across your psyche
allow your pulse to surrender
as a passionate participle spices your desire
savor the taste of bliss
tiptoe on the velvety tantalizing terrain
remember the timeless taste of "that" kiss
join me on this canvas
of complicity
where the words belong only
to the eyes reading them
and no one else matters

What transpires between two people can be so intimate...and in a subtle undercurrent of desire, parts of speech become just tools to convey the intent as those superfluous syllables. Loved those stray consonants and vowels that swayed. Just beautiful imagery there. The build-up of passion is very palpable in your words. The stage for seduction seems set in beautifully whispered words. The conclusion is very dreamy. My Friday night is brighter here!

Such smouldering words on the page, dear Lydia, that I can almost sense a rising of exclamation points! Lol. It's a very sensual and seductive write and one that fits in so well with your accompanying portrait. Words that are mean't only and truly for the eyes of the object of affection. Certainly a lovely fantasy write for a stormy Friday night! I enjoyed this one very much. So well written! :))

If a picture paints a thousand words, words can also paint a thousand pictures. Lol
Words are powerful...and seductive, too. When there is bond between two people, they can read between the lines.
Elegantly seductive poem. 😉

First comes that beautiful woman, tHe artist knew how. Then.. there are your phrases, lusciously yet academically etching selves into ethereal magic. .

What a lovely thing to say, Emma. thank you so much. Lydi*
The intimacy of words, painting a portrait that would make the most talented of artists snap their brushes in defeat.
I now feel like I know the subject of the painting intimately, as I light a cigarette and smile at your words with a contented sigh.
