A Poem by Lydia Shutter

translucent memories
with bones fragile from age
float by my mind's eye
flames dancing in the night
sparks of ancient times
nothing is as it once was
and probably never will be again
the new normal has blurry edges
the unknown looms large
thoughts roll downhill gathering tears
till finally landing on a bench
to watch children make dandelion wishes
certain they will come true

I am trying to recall my own dandelion wishes as a lad in the long, long ago and am struggling to recall current events being part of my childhood vision. Then again, I think I'm getting a little long in the tooth to score the winning goal in a world cup final for Scotland too, not to mention marrying miss world (remember that?)
Things won't be the same Lydi, other than you'll keep writing wonderful words and thoughts, but at least we know this. Everything is the end of the world when you're young and it can't be fixed tomorrow.
I hope they get at least some more semblance of youth before permanent disillusionment sets in.
I don't care how mad I look, I'm going out to play the minute the lockdown is lifted. Virtual hide and seek just isn't the same 😀
Be safe.

Yes, the wishes we had as kids, and why not maybe still as adults. Wishing on that shooting star or that lady bug in the hopes that all our dreams turn into reality how ever silly it may have been as a kid. The innocence of child's play... @'/:o)

I appreciate your review, Rose. Lydi*
Here's to wishes blown on dandelions, carried by winds of amazing grace, may they enter like prayers into the very mind of God. They say His mind is on the sparrow and there are many shivering birds cowering in their nests, waiting for the sun to shine again.

I am a old man and I still make the dandelion wishes. I loved the complete poem dear Lydia. I told my grandchildren also. If a Ladybug laid upon your body. It is good luck and make a wish. Thank you dear Lydia for sharing the amazing poetry.

I still do dear Lydia and you are welcome.
Time is an inescapable conclusion, and you are right when you say that nothing is as it once was. But it is the unknown future that has always beckoned, and right now, my biggest wish of all is that the dandelion wishes of every child will very soon come true.

We will come through this, of that I am sure. Whether the world will be a better place after what is surely a wake up call, I am sadly not so sure of.

A lovely poem with an equally lovely sentiment.

Beccy.

Take care and stay safe. X

i will join that closing 100% ;) certainly those dreams will come true ... the world moves on .. we learn it sooner or later ... one of my Da's pieces of advice (i did not understand) was "Son, you can never go back." i thought ... oh ......ok Dad! and how many of us try .. back to the old neighborhood .. all those feelings that held us in spells ... ghosts now .. even if streets and houses are the same ... the scene has changed .. i hope the best can come from this Pandemic ... we can use those basic safe measures all the time .. wash hands .. keep them away from the face .. respect peoples "personal space" ... which psychologists say is 3 feet anyway ... not hard to make it 6 ;) well said as always Lydia .. love the pic .. an opening with "translucent memories" sets the pace for me ... makes me think of cataracts ..which they say will come to most as bones become more fragile ... love and grace dahlink! :)

:) ................. well ... we do see with translucent eyes many times me thinks! ;)
as we age, we come to realize just how much things and times change, how "nothing is ever the same again" and especially as we face the harsh realities of covid-19.... from the top of our society to the bottom, the worse of our nature is being shown and dominates.... it is on the tiny dandelion whisps where hope rests in the form of those who rush to be on the front lines of scientifically understanding and treating this pandemic, those whose acts of kindness, generosity and largeness of mind, can be the basis of the kind of society human beings need to live.... the lives and future of our children and their children depend on it....

thank you Lydi, your wonderfully "nice" words help us to see and have such 'hope'....

Uncertain times... children still play... and pick dandelions and
make wishes. We will live for the hope that we carry and wishes
for a pleasant world for everyone. I think of Pandora's Box...
where Hope was hidden in the bottom corner... after all the Illness in
the World came tumbling out and about. truly, Pat

"dandelion will tell no lies, dandelion will make you wise, blow away dandelion" (Rolling Stones)

in our day, there was more of a likelihood that those wishes could come true...
but now the wishes are being blown away...it will never be like it once was...i used to search endlessly for four leaf clovers...not sure they make those any more.
this is beautifully written.

Finally landed where hope dominates. You depicted a very clear picture of old and new generations.
I appreciate you sing about the optimism of the children who will consequently steer the world ahead.
Very positive vibe indeed.
