the quarantine blues

the quarantine blues

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

a little fun ditty because, well, what else can i do? :)

"

i'm singing the blues
from this quarantine
the streets are all empty
it's a surrealistic scene!
my closet is organized
my dresser is too
i've read three books
what else is there to do?
the books on my shelf
are now alphabetical
the end date of this solitude
is just hypothetical!
i've made a fruit salad
and baked a chocolate cake
if this were a movie
we'd need a re-take!
my hair's a mess
my nails are painted quarantine
i'll not need a costume
if this lasts through halloween!
hands are raw
from sanitizer and soap
toilet paper is in short supply
all we can do is hope!
we're all in this together
that's true enough
now's the time to prove
we can be pretty tough.

You know the old saying Lydi**, laughter is the best medicine, and my goodness we need a good dose of that now don't we? Our lockdown started today, but we have been practising for best part of a week in our household. It will be hard not seeing some of the family, but at least we have technology which will keep us in touch. Routine, getting in to a set one is essential and finding things to do to replace all the social activities. Yes, I will be clearing out cupboards, gardening and finding a few new hobbies. Thank you for a lighthearted write about something we are all in together. Take care my friend.

'.. ... if this were a movie - we'd need a re-take!' Super clever quote.

IT IS, IT IS, IT IS!!!! This is such a great poem, truth to its core yet somehow, the reader knows that by the end a ripple of a smile will have cracked a few laughs from where they've been hiding. Thank you so very much for sharing with your friends, it's what we all need. xx

Hahaha. You are welcome....
It is all serious and funny at the same time Lydia. Man builds the largest and baddest weapons to fight each other, then a small invisible enemy attacks all and shuts down the whole world. I guess there is a lesson in all of that. Even superpowers are helpless trying to find cures and other equipment to fight it. Well, good things will come out of this, I hope. Unity, good vaccines, compassion and so forth and even humor like you just did. You never disappoint.

The most dangerous part of this is how much baking I've been doing! Usually I only have one choice, when it comes to treats. Now I have cake, scones, home-baked bread, all fresh baked . . . this is definitely getting fattening! *wink! wink!* Thanks for bringing some levity to the situation! Especially loved the part about your books being alphabetized . . . that's the very meaning of throwing down a few words & being able to show a fulsome caricature of one's OCD tendencies! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Disinfectant distance is a dance... where even the Cashier
at Wegmans grocery store wants you to be four to six feet away when you pay.
A red tape is on the floor with a sign that says, "do not advance until instructed to do so".
I asked the Pharmacist if Walking in the fresh air-- could the CoronaVirus get into your body
through your eyes and nose and ears, and he said, "since the virus is airborne, it is possible."
Snoopy the flying Ace would not be safe. Yes, we must keep our sense of humor and smile our
way through each day. The Police are wandering through the stores looking for TP. (one per person).
Hope there is free TP in the Rest Room... take your disinfectant with you. Thanks Lydi for waking my

Nicely rhymed, Lydi, and reflective of the cabin fever a lot of us are feeling. I wonder if toilet paper will eventually become legal tender.
