the quarantine blues

the quarantine blues

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

a little fun ditty because, well, what else can i do? :)

"

i'm singing the blues
from this quarantine
the streets are all empty
it's a surrealistic scene!
my closet is organized
my dresser is too
i've read three books
what else is there to do?
the books on my shelf
are now alphabetical
the end date of this solitude
is just hypothetical!
i've made a fruit salad
and baked a chocolate cake
if this were a movie
we'd need a re-take!
my hair's a mess
my nails are painted quarantine
i'll not need a costume
if this lasts through halloween!
hands are raw
from sanitizer and soap
toilet paper is in short supply
all we can do is hope!
we're all in this together
that's true enough
now's the time to prove
we can be pretty tough.

You know the old saying Lydi**, laughter is the best medicine, and my goodness we need a good dose of that now don't we? Our lockdown started today, but we have been practising for best part of a week in our household. It will be hard not seeing some of the family, but at least we have technology which will keep us in touch. Routine, getting in to a set one is essential and finding things to do to replace all the social activities. Yes, I will be clearing out cupboards, gardening and finding a few new hobbies. Thank you for a lighthearted write about something we are all in together. Take care my friend.

Don't know how I missed this little ray of light in the darkness, that shows how the human spirit will overcome.

Week four of lockdown has just started over here Lydia, and with Charlie to home school and discovering all sorts of jobs I never knew needed doing, I think I am just about avoiding going stir crazy. :))

Enjoyed this fun little ditty and trust you and yours are staying safe and well.

well said Lydia! the mix of humor with a sobering reality is pretty smart says i ... i live an acre away from my nearsest neighbor and the next nearest is across the holler ;) my life style is laid back and stay home anyway so i haven't had to change much of anything ... i retired from working as a RN in Intensive Care so hand washing and keeping my hands away from my face are second nature ... but i feel for young families especially .. and those whose jobs and pay are on hold ... not to mention all those businesses now struggling ... it all has happened overnight seemingly ... i think you have some great closing lines ... we are pretty tough ... millions of years tough eh!?

I think we've proved it Lydia..Proved that were tough enough to sit a mourn the dying relatives we cannot hold the hands of. Proff that our phones are our only link to human habitation. Proff that quarantine has put our lust on hold, our frigidity, or psoriasis. Nothing matters much now and especially not truth. The truth hurts too much right now to imagine / great poem

Baking chocolate and other kind of lovely cakes, doing my nails and my hair! WoW great stuff that I just love! It’s wonderful to be able to have me-time for a bit though I understand Covid is stretching us way more. Your poem is lovely and so eloquently written! I loved reading every bit of it!
Wishing you all wonderful things. Stay safe Lydi.

Not only did these words make me both chuckle and wince simultaneously, they made me think too...Something dawned on me in the split second the caress I was expecting and the kidney punch were delivered... Stay safe n well my friend..
