just a trace

just a trace

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

"
just a trace of a thought
nearly invisible
then suddenly leaping into focus
my heart picks up the vibration
a typo with the beat of a tambourine
sputtering syllables filled with sad silent letters
are now somehow tangible
my nerve endings fray
till i can almost braid them
reaching
reaching
for the right words
because surely they have settled
at the bottom of my thoughts
but the only words that bare themselves to me
are the ones i wish i couldn't feel so strongly
i miss you

such a beautifully written poem...
especially like the "sputtering syllables..." line...

and just how inspiration comes...unseen, feeling it is not going to happen...
and then suddenly there is clarity of words, of lines...of themes...and they are the words of real, deep feelings...
tangible ones, not invisible ones.

Popped in to find your kind response. Also allowing me the chance to share your sadness for a while... read more
A poets words are often emotional and sometimes hard to write. With inspiration we find them, arrange them, and in the end they touch us. If only for a while we lose our place and the syllables sputter until magically they settle in the bottom our your thoughts. Thank you Lydia

Thank you so much for understanding and for the lovely review. Lydi**
Beautifully constructed, in tempo, in subject and it must be said in feelings. A poem I can empathise with as it shows in its construction how it was indeed constructed.

The memories we have of our loved ones is so incredibly important. True, the thoughts often bring sadness, but it is how they live on past the all too brief time we are allotted in this world.

Beautifully worded and sung from the heart poetry.

Thanks very much, Beccy. Happy New Year. LydI***
It is often in the words that we seem unable to find that we find clarity of though and feeling. You express it beautifully here.

"sputtering syllables filled with sad silent letters
are now somehow tangible"

Amazing poetry there...

hmmm wow this is lovely, sad, emotive - your words cascade all the way down to those three simplest of words with all the depth 'I miss you'

Oh my this expression of love and languishing loss is so beautiful I'm left so sad and speechless... this is, what poetry was made for! These words are far more beautiful then that striking picture and I mean striking:) How could the recipient of such true and tender affections not return those very feelings!

LOL it happens:?
Lydi.. the beat of a tambourine...
is so symbolic when missing someone who gave you life in abundance... with a song from
a heart that lights a candle and sings to you.
Forever entwined in your heart and mind. truly, Pat

we do "miss them" don't we Lydi.... the beautiful sadness I feel and read in your poem is beyond "nice" and yet so often the sharpest, clearest words are the 3 small words you pen..

Thanks so much, Curt. Your "nice" reviews mean a lot to me. Lydi**
Little reminders tend to pop up every now and again, ' just a trace' of cologne, perhaps shared favourite moments of whatever tickled our tastebuds together, or even those very last red December leaves are all it takes to open the floodgates of once warm and fond times spent together in blissful love... till we meet again ❤️

Beautiful heartfelt, candid poetic Lydia, happy Christmas my friend 🎅🏻
