A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by talantbek chekirov

when the moon leaves for the day
the sky does not complain
it knows the moon will be back

when the morning tide is angry
the shore takes its punishment bravely
it knows the anger will recede soon

when a butterfly flits from flower to flower
the flowers are not jealous
they are happy for whatever attention they receive

when i fall apart in the privacy of my room
drinking in the darkness as an elixir
the walls understand
knowing soon things will be fine

I love this poem. And i read it 2-3 times. I feel that its actually if we have someone who can be our 'sky' 'shore' 'flower' and 'wall'. Someone who just knows that things will be better even when we doubt it. "I can jump off a cliff and smile, only if i have your love with me."
Beautiful ❤️

Reviews

I swore i wrote a review of this or am I just having some sort of deja vu I have habit of reading a poem multiple times before I can review maybe I just did it in my head? O'lydia this makes me feel sad but also it doesn't cause the acceptance of it is plainly wrought upon your lines but its also like a sigh or an imperceptible tear but the feeling is not inauthentic but rather comes across even more strongly

Lydi dear... when darkness falls... I see the Moon...
sometimes full and other times a banana moon.
It seems to know when to hide behind a cloud...
where Stars gather for silent prayer. "flowers are not
jealous when butterflies flit from flower to flower ...
they are happy for whatever attention they receive".
Life is a cradle with feelings that must cry and smile as
the wind blows gently while we rest and dream awhile.
All will be well with the morning light peeping through the
shades of blue sonnets. truly tethered, Pat

Thank you so much, Pat. You are always poetic. Lydi**
This is a truly beautiful poem Lydi** and speaks to me. It's all about balance, and I know I can't experience the highs without sampling the lows too. On those low days, I work through them and keep working until, they start to lift. They always do eventually like mist lifting from the river in morning light. It comes eventually. Such depth of feeling here, I was right with you in your final stanza. Your poetic expression is wonderful with its reference to mother nature. Artwork as usual chosen with an artist's flair.

Those quiet, private moments when we can mourn for all behind the brave face we cling to, to protect us from crumbling in public. It is amazing the punishment a person can take, but without those quiet moment buffers, history would swallow us whole.
I really don't know why I bother to interpret your words Lydi, as they are already perfect before comment.

You're very welcome.
that's such a magnificent way to write about it my friend, I was reading and waiting to know what it was about, You are both gentle and wise, strong and kind, the third verse really caught my attention, it holds a peaceful touch of living in harmony and love. let things be, live the darkness and pain and let it pass with the awareness that it will end someday.

Beautiful image. Such is life: the ebb and flow, the wax and wane, those that depart to return again. This composition is soft with velvet words, plush with understanding and truth. Well penned.

you said it all so well.. I am always astonished when someone seems to have been reading my mind.. it couldn't be that someone else has been where I find myself when I thought I was the only one.. and by the way.. you even found my picture..

A poem of hope in the midst of trouble... the analogies work well, building to the final, personal observation...
