the morse code of music

the morse code of music

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

just a bit of a crazy day

"

artwork by angela nyiri
like a shooting star going through a time tunnel
landing in a place familiar to me many years ago
my thoughts ricochet back
i wonder
if the dead could speak what would they say?
if my bones could tell the tale would it be a bestseller?
my mind plods through the weeds
stopping to sip tea from that special cup you loved so much
the sweetness of the sugar lingers on my tongue
perhaps that is the last time i was truly happy
or was it?
yet another thought to ponder
details details
is the devil really in the details?
if he is why doesn't he show himself to me?
thoughts jiggled then jostled
the morse code of music sends its calming message to me
and for just a moment all is right with my world

so many great lines in this...the title..."ib my bones could tell the tale would it be a bestseller?"
and i think it would...
and sometimes i think there is a certain vagueness to happiness...not sure when i was last most happy...
if the dead do speak, i want to be there to hear what they say.

really deep poem, Lydi.

'if my bones could tell the tale would it be a bestseller'... if bones would tell everything we are too afraid to write in living then yes I believe it would! I laughed at 'yet another thought to ponder', all these questions in life which are so relatable. A lovely pit-stop at a memory drinking from a dear-one's favorite cup, and in the end the music puts an end to the inner chatter and leaves you with some peace. I really enjoyed this.

My pleasure!
The music of the past is always embedded in our hearts.
Notes become our tune to sing for the day... to toss around
and charm others who lost their way. Just the other day, a man in a wheelchair
who never said a word... began to whistle a tune I have never heard.
I will always wonder... what made him whistle ... it was amazing to me.

WOW...music is the accompaniment to your lives, Pat. That man remembered something from his past. .. read more
First, the folksy artwork perfectly accompanies your poem. Her eyes closed, head tilted, absorbed in music, she dances in a world she creates with each new song. Music offers that escape, and often inspiration, even if created by a stranger with the same struggles.

Several lines stick in my head, like lyrics from my favorite rock songs, and I reflect on the truth you’ve captured here. A wonderful poem rich with meaning.

My interpretation of this was the love of music, which has always been instrumental in my life. It's how when you hear a song, and you're suddenly transported back to another time and place. I thought your accompanying photo and your title were the quintessential pieces...another gem from the gallery of many!
