time

time

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

time is beautiful
that's what i used to believe
when my world was young
and equations were solved
with the ease of youth
the future was sewn up with beautiful embroidery
bright stitches creating such a rosy display
words stood guard at the doors of my soul
sweet words i felt certain would never sour
but now time is a weapon
the future has started to ravel at the edges
fading a bit more with each passing year
and those words have lost not only their sweetness
but their ability to shield me
equations refuse to add up
so no matter how hard i try
to gaze through rose-colored glasses
time is bordering on ghastly

When a friend becomes the enemy. I was thinking that just today, as I rambled along a hiking path, looking on jealously at the hills and munros I used to run up without a thought.
I told some tourists who had descended, that I was jealous of how easy they made it look and they burst out laughing. They had been saying the same thing of me on their descent, sitting on a bench with a flask, just enjoying the scene.
I guess we can all feel a little jealous at times, but would I want to change places with them? Absolutely :)
A wonderful and thpught filled wrote to start the year in style Lydi.

Happy New Year Lydia, in with the old, out with the new eh? Yes, and doesn't seem to get quicker as we mature with age?

A thoughtful, vulnerable poetic reverie, much enjoyed my friend!

You know it...most important thing!
" ... sweet words i felt certain would never sour.". This makes me think of how my mind has been looking at life with the year ending. Less time left, less innocence, and less positive viewpoints. Obviously you touched a chord. Kudos. ~Jim
