time

time

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

time is beautiful
that's what i used to believe
when my world was young
and equations were solved
with the ease of youth
the future was sewn up with beautiful embroidery
bright stitches creating such a rosy display
words stood guard at the doors of my soul
sweet words i felt certain would never sour
but now time is a weapon
the future has started to ravel at the edges
fading a bit more with each passing year
and those words have lost not only their sweetness
but their ability to shield me
equations refuse to add up
so no matter how hard i try
to gaze through rose-colored glasses
time is bordering on ghastly

When a friend becomes the enemy. I was thinking that just today, as I rambled along a hiking path, looking on jealously at the hills and munros I used to run up without a thought.
I told some tourists who had descended, that I was jealous of how easy they made it look and they burst out laughing. They had been saying the same thing of me on their descent, sitting on a bench with a flask, just enjoying the scene.
I guess we can all feel a little jealous at times, but would I want to change places with them? Absolutely :)
A wonderful and thpught filled wrote to start the year in style Lydi.

Thanks again, Brandie. I appreciate your review. Lydi*
It is so true. Time can be a friend or foe, a solution or a dilemma. Our perspectives of course change with it, our needs and priorities. I love how you contrast things using marvelous imagery. Wonderful as usual.

You are welcome. Same to you.
time is often a very mean and cruel task master... tick tock tick tock, it's never ending until of course our time's up.... but thinking on time, I realize that it is TIME for more COFFEE.... thanks Lydi for the wake up call... er.. what??!!! your poem doesn't include coffee???? drats… or is that darts, some of those smaller "arrows of time" thrown at the bullseye of life and having only one direction.... but if we are going to get into direction and time and space and relativity and equations, then I definitely need more coffee.... you know they tell us we can waste time... hmmm... now where did I put that sledgehammer so I can actually kill time... yep that's my comment and I'm sticking to it... ;0)
Lydi, your poems are always so wonderful and "Nice", I love taking the TIME to read them.... excuse me though as I must go get another coffee....

Gee
Would be nice to be able to slow it down a tad, instead it seems to speed up as we age, probably due to the realisation as to how precious our time on earth is and at the same time now fleeting. Saying that Is rather be dead than lose my marbles.
Happy New year Lydia.

Time gets us all.
Climbing mountains in the mind seem easy, but we know how hard it is.
But you're only dead when you're dead.
One step at a time, it's always been that way.
Happy new year. Lydia.

As another year passes and we reflect not only on the recent, but the long gone years of our youth and realize we're on the down side. Thank god for those rose colored glasses !
HAPPY NEW YEAR Lydia, may it be better than the last, and slower moving than most

Time can feel like a weapon.
our self-image begins to fade into someone not so new. We have to reinvent ourselves each day new.

But I'm with ya I wish I was still 32.

hardship in getting older I got from this well explained poetry which picked up and explained how easy we find things when younger. especially like how you used time as weapon and this is exactly what it is if it is working again you as you feel it is in your poem. the hopelessness in working out equations was very thought provoking and so was the ending of the poem as you explained looking through rose colour glasses . in all this was a enjoyable poem to break down and I just hope I have got some of it right. all this can relate to time as with time we are all ageing. looking forward to reading more of your poetry and its very deep and I love that. Lydia keep writing and expressing as your time is appreciated ,
