A Poem by Lydia Shutter

long ago
you were the hope that kept me believing
like the last ripple of a mighty wave
the buoyant "just maybe"
and the spark that kept my flame alive
maybe it's strange
but on this november day
the warm sand reminded me
and when a white-foamed wave kissed my toes
i smiled....pretending it was you

What a gently passionate setting you've contrived, Lydi, tis absolutely sighhhhh-worthy. Not surprisingly, it seems to be a delightful and infinite memory for you. Would you believe I crinkled my toes when i read your penultimate line! There can sometimes be such a special and precious feel about 'just maybe'.

Once again Lydi, then and now merge in your words as memory travels back to what was, while a new memory is added to the old by those tickled toes. I wonder if they will now become part of the memory the next time you think of that person.
A beautiful scene, painted in words.

you are most welcome :)
this is one of your best...love the last two lines...the personification...and being the "just maybe"

when we are that for others it could be nice...but then if we become the "guess not's" maybe not so much.

this one just rolls off the tongue beautifully.

You are welcome my dear friend.
Memories sustain us when there is nothing else. There is melancholy as well as love in your lines Lydi**. Beautifully conveyed.

It is within the recess of a memory that they remain as they were before they left us. I believe this was written for your Dad, and I know the depths from which you drew upon to write it. October, November and December are a triple whammy for me in the melancholy department. Perhaps that goes for many here as well who can relate to such a loss in their lives, and the day to day significance of it that we continue to feel, and that continues to surge through us time and again. The poignancy of this has a heart all its own. Thank you for touching mine!

Just maybe. Hope. Sometimes all you need is a dash, and everything is great. Not a lot. Just a pinch. And all is well, and almost anything can be endured. Nicely written.
