hoping against hope

hoping against hope

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by rutuja padwal
i want to wrap you around my bundle of memories
but like the fuzzy edges of a slowly fading dream
you escape my grasp
i want...no, need... to write it all down
but it seems my pen has other plans
my steady breathing quickens
till it is a sarcoma of fear, regret, and grief
the hum of angst grows louder and more distinct
time to get up
make a cup of tea
hoping against hope
you will come back to me in another reverie

This is a very special poem, & quite different from any other I have read of yours, at least recently dear Lydi**.. without doubt full to bursting with love and hope, but also tinged with more negative understandable emotions that so often accompany loss, or the fear of anticipated loss... a very personal and deeply moving poem indeed..... Thanks so much. Lydi**
An excellent bit of writing, Lydi, and so appropriate to your choice of artwork. Memories can last a lifetime,
but they can grow fuzzy and it seems we often look back through a rose coloured filter, good every now and then to be honest with our dreams...they were not always great...nor are they now...but they are sometimes all we have left.

This is an intense snippet of how it feels to be grinding on an endless mind loop over someone. I know you are gadding about these days, Lydia, & I don't expect a reply soon. Just wanted to wish you great fun & much love thru your holiday season! It's always a pleasure to see you at the cafe & share your notable & much-loved writing (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

The world is full of all sorts of emotions....not all happy as we know. Thanks, Cassie. Lydi***
and when we need to write it down and can't---the tension builds, and then explodes.

maybe one more cup of tea...and the muse will let us have our way...and the pen will move.

And sometimes the words are stuck in an alternate universe! :) Thanks, Jacob. Lydi**
I have become a flow writer. Write, when my mind wants to.

I could dear Lydia and you are welcome.
Lydia, you always write so beautifully and this one touches something deep.
Feels more raw. More real. Harsh reality versus lovely dream.
