somehow that's okay

somehow that's okay

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

a day of reflection

"

artwork by samm grimaldi
melancholy thoughts
a tickle of  back-lit memory
sparking a bit of hunger
an iota of itch
stubbornly refusing to go away
a spritz of scent
just an invisible trace
emptying pockets of once precise images
but the edges are a bit blurry now
and truly better left unseen
yet i give in to the temptation
pretending i am back there
watching the small fish eat the big fish
hiding under the covers will not make it go away
not today
dark and light threads of reflection weave
the ill-fitting tapestry of me
and somehow that's okay

I can relate to your words Lydi...those melancholy moods get to me from time to time - and it's funny, because they come out of the blue. Just a "spritz of scent" can bring them back. "Hiding under the covers will not make it go away" - so true my friend. I love the ending "somehow that's okay". Tomorrows another day... Smiles and hugs, Julie

Its funny how life works as we get older, the blur images of time, the emptiness that hold the images of long ago. how memories can still dance into the mind , leaving no trace. I truly like your poem, thank you for sharing your talent.

Sounds like you are sifting the drawers of memory here Lydi. I like the melancholy tone.

I do like to reflect and learn from the past. Those invisible traces call us from behind the veils of uncertainty. Some pretend they will go away but they persist. Your poetry is excellent in any mood...

Reflection is a river of memories... with ripples of sunshine and shadows of dreams... we grow and go with the flow... knowing we have learned a better course of inlets undiscovered🌈 truly, Pat

A spritz of scent. It is interesting how smells can evoke memories. Stuff resurfaces which we would prefer not to remember. I picked up on some darkness here, part of the author's tapestry which she has dealt with and accepted, albeit painful. Well written Lydi.

Yes, Christine, you are spot on. Thank you. Lydi**
this is interesting and so good.

I went in my own direction as i was reading it...feeling that there might have been some abuse for the speaker and reflections on how it formed her adulthood...how she learned to survive it all...she wants to move on...but those melancholy thoughts...haunt her and cause her to still feel that pain.
very moving write---nice alliteration also.

Why is it so hard to just leave some thoughts completely blurred....we cycle them through when we least expect it and it leaves us feeling so blue. I love the way you weaved this delightful poem Lydia :)
