unwritten and unread

unwritten and unread

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by hannah robinson
last night i heard your aubade in my dreams
it serenaded me
even as the sun awakened raking the waves
you were my prince
the one who was to rescue me
from between the lines of a well written fantasy
but the thread of our thoughts unspooled
leaving a knotted mess
truth is i've traveled so many miles between then and now
but just sometimes when the sun tires
tethering afternoon to evening
a bittersweet tear finds its way down my cheek
and i realize it's truly a crime
our last chapter will forever be left unwritten
and unread

I have been absent from your pages far too long & for that, I apologise and true... tho having now found my way back to you, I doubt I shall stray again... and shall be back again in let's say a day or two... your poetry never lets me down, or leaves me disappointed Lydi** and these words are no exception......respect and a gentle hug on the way....... You always pack a powerful punch whenever you return from any length of time, and you really raised the bar with this one. Neville said it best - you simply never disappoint!

I appreciate your kind words, Kelly. Thanks. Lydi**
there have been several last chapters that i have left unwritten...and therefore unread.

I seem to never finish books of love at all...they always end way before end...

but the fantasy is fun to read while it lasts.

like this one a bunch.

Thanks so much, Jacob. Lydi**
Where one story ends another begins. Sad to see when some chapters never end up being finished, but that's the way of life. Beautifully written.

Your welcome Lydi :)
There are those loves from the past who touched us, and rather than anger, we feel a genuine loss. This is a beautiful poem that depicts that reality.

You so understand. Thank you, Lyn. Lydi**
wow what an amazing poem this is... i love the lines expressed vividly.. the emotions that triggered in one's heart are too beautiful to be written and expressed.. and the twist in the end makes a difference...

Thank you so much, Sette. Lydi**
Lydi, the lyrical wistfulness of your graceful words paint a picture of half-remembered dreams...a time of nuances and memories. The ghost of a lover’s “aubade” beckons and, “when the sun tires” ,opens the wounded heart once again- brilliantly written. Beautiful imagery and metaphor throughout. The last two lines, not “unread”, are so eloquent in their regret.

"Our last chapter will forever be left unwritten
and unread"
There is such sadness in those words, which play on the author's mind from time to time and cause a tear to trickle down her cheek. Loss there, and I am sorry for that Lydi.

I did like the above lines and the ending. Unwritten and unread. Stories needed to be create and written. Thank you for sharing the outstanding poetry.

“a bittersweet tear finds its way down my cheek...” to capture the tune when you were rescued... a melody as old as time... a poem without a rhyme... flowers pressed and tucked in our heart. truly a weeping willow touched by memories. Pat
