but the sun comes out

but the sun comes out

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by christiane vleugels
regrets open their petals
blossoming in the smoldering heat
june's mouth waters
the window pane reflects a multi-layered image
of what might have been
what perhaps was
and what is no more
but the sun comes out
raking through the muck of bitterness
a rainbow of sweet suggestion appears in the sky
just a dirty dream
  more of an unsolved mystery
suddenly wearing a clean-cut sensibility
the world of possibility explodes

I love your poetry for the sheer beauty of the words backed by beautiful thought and reasoning.

This poem touches me with its message of hope and the choice the writer makes to look at the brighter side.

A lovely presentation. There are sometimes those days, but yes, the sun returns and brings with it simultaneously a sense of relief and regret at what it reveals. Beautifully captured here, as always

Today's news will be yesterday's old fish & chip paper, so those regrets are superficial in context to the dawn of a new and vibrant day!

Invigorating poetry my friend!!

Thanks so much, Tom. I appreciate your review. Lydi**
the form is appealing to me eye ;) i like the contrasts you draw and i feel uplifted by your closing ...could have gone either way eh!? but i am glad you chose possibilities ... the sun is not quite up yet here ... but i can see it rising in me minds eye ...and yes...exploding possibilities galore! but i am fortunate, retired, and living a life long dream of our little cabin in the woods ;) some are not so fortunate are they :(
great read for me Lydia

Many are not as fortunate, indeed....we have to be happy for what we have, E. Thank you so much for.. read more

Your metaphors always rise to the occasion, showering an orchestration of fanfare to compliment your choice of artwork. You fill a page with such dimension, and imagery...simply fabulous!

Even on our darkest days, there is always the promise of sun. We are I think, as a species, more prone to optimism than pessimism, and mind set will generally dictate the way it all eventually works out.

Better a cup half full than half empty every time. :))

I agree! Thanks for reading! Lydi**
It doesn't have to be no more for one can recapture what was lost if the feeling is still there on there on the other side of the rainbow after the storm has passed.

Exquisitely penned ...for the sun will shine again.

In June, our mouth does water with hope as the petals of blossoms
open and a soft rain leaving "a rainbow of sweet suggestion appears in the sky...
more of an unsolved mystery... the world of possibility explodes". Your words
seem to heal with the balm of new beginnings and the sun comes out. truly Pat
