there was a time

there was a time

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

happy birthday, andrew!

"

there was a time

you danced to the rhythm of my heart

i felt the morse code of your movements

interpreting what you had to tell me

there was a time

i tucked you into a giant bed

wrapped the blankets tightly round you

before reading you a bedtime story

and giving you the last kiss of the day

a time when your overalls proclaimed to the world

you were “mom’s hero”

and the sparkle in your eyes told me i was yours

it’s been years since

your home was with me

years since tom petty serenaded

our early morning rides to ice rinks

but the thing is

“the more things change, the more they stay the same”

as you announced in your speech as salutatorian

and it applies now

yes, it’s true

on the 40th anniversary of your birth

you are still “mom’s hero”

i love you!

You melted my heart with the pictures and lovely poem Lydi! A mother’s love for her children is infinite-age, time, distance, make no difference in the freshness and depth and strength of that love. Your heart-felt words that flow so lyrically and are so real and pognant express this beautifully. I love the style as you speak directly to “Mom’s Hero” in a poetic journey through his life. Love the phrases, the conversation- “but the thing is”..., that lead the last two verses and pull the reader into the circle of two. Love it, love it, love it! :)))

How beautiful this is! I have two sons and a daughter and I can relate so well to your lovely and loving words! Always and forever, our children become our heroes. Now I have to call my sons to let them know I love them :-)

Lovely sentiment from a mother's heart. Why, oh why must they grow up so fast?

dear Lydia, feeling the Morse code of a baby's movement and dancing to the rhythm of your heart is Indeed an overture of love that Mozart himself would love to compose. A most endearing tribute to your son and may he cherish the flutter of your butterfly words. truly, Pat

Lydi, dear Lydi.. the following phrase whispers a magical spell wrapped in truth absolute, “the more things change, the more they stay the same”

Your boy, cos maybe that's what he'll always be but now wearing a larger shoe size - knows that whereever he walks, you - and his dad, have laid the way as flat as can be possible. Your poem's more than sincere, more than loving from start to finish. How beautiful love can be.

This is a beautiful post to read, Lydi. (You) ..
THIS IS AWESOME! What a lucky guy, to have a mom like you! Who wouldn't be dancing on clouds after a tribute like this!?!?! I love the way you immersed me in the feelings of being a mom, despite my never having this experience. I love the reference to Tom Petty, which reminds me you're both from Florida & now I'm wondering if you grew up in Florida listening to your home boy? I love the overalls with "Mom's Hero" & then I glance at the collage & there it is! Everything fits so well together, pieces of a life well-enjoyed & honored thru your words (((HUGS))) fondly, Margie
