Irma

Irma

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

Irma is now a Category 4 hurricane and is headed for Florida. A bit of levity is definitely needed. Not sure how long we will have electricity and cell towers.

"

She’s hips and bust audacious

Red feeder bands make her blush so bold

Taking bits of pieces of the Caribbean with her

And she thinks she’s headed for our threshold!

She claims her dirty side is not to be messed with

They say she’s a daredevil out to conquer our whole state

But she doesn’t know who she’s dealing with

So listen, Irma, let’s get a few things straight!

We’ve dealt with Andrew and Wilma

David, Charlie, and Frederick too

You’d make a sharp turn to the east right now

If you knew what was good for you!

We’ve got water and batteries ready

Our lanterns will light up the streets

We’ve got wine, bread, and canned goods

And all sorts of delicious treats!

So do a girl a favor - just listen

It would be best if we never skirmish

If you go now and play out in the Atlantic

You’d fulfill my fondest wish!

Indeed a frightening situation. I hear Neckar is devastated too. Poor Sir Richard, homeless! My heart goes our to all in the Caribbean, Florida, Mexico, Pakistan and India. It makes me feel ashamed to complain about British weather; but I do lol!
Well penned portrayal of a terrifying situation Lydi.

even bad girls can be good sometimes. yesterday was storm central, high winds, snow cascading like a storm worthy foe. power lost, lantern at the ready, flashlights beaming, the whole neighborhood shed in darkness. the bad girl giving way to sunshine and calm.

Hell have no fury like a woman scorned, yes Lydia, she vented her wrath in rousing and extremely rough, inclement retribution, why?

Only the Gods can say!

A finely penned, meteorological poetic contemplation!

Way to go girl...ya tell her that!!! Fantastical play of words in a word combat with a hurricane who conceded defeat at the edge of the sword you wield

Thanks so much. We were very fortunate in SE Florida. Lydi**
Hahaha ! My only hurricane experience was with Frederic back in '79 (I was stationed in Biloxi). This seems to be a one of a kind season and I am glad I am far from these storms. ~Jim

I've been watching CNN's coverage all day and night, and I don't mind telling you that Irma scared the hell out of me! I do hope you've prevailed and will be back with us as soon as you are able.

Take care my friend!
