vibrant

vibrant

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by hessam abrishami

the colors were more vibrant then

stars sat on the horizon twinkling just for us

the wind put wheels on palm fronds

allowing us to drive to who knew

            or who cared

                        where

every moment was an adventure

you were my sustenance

through so many mouth-watering days

                        and nights

the florescent glow of a gas station’s neon sign

served as a lighthouse

leading us to the next wonderful experience

the next memory to be made

you were perpetual motion

i was insatiable energy

looking back i can see it all clearly

we were stowaways on a derailed dream

but it was our dream

we made everything out of nothing

truth is

even though it had to end

i wouldn’t have wanted it any other way

This is delicious & sweetly melancholy, perfectly describing my wanderlust youth & the yearning to take the next road trip with a dedicated companion. Your details are brightly crafted to bring back memories in even more VIBRANT hues than ever before! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Such depth of emotion I feel, dwelling on your words. Youth is a dream. It flies swiftly on the wings of bliss taking heady love with it. Then all that remains are the memories as beautiful as Goya's paintings to be cherished in our rooms, we are blessed to have them.

Its a pleasure all mine. You are welcome.
The painting is a brilliant choice for your equally brilliant poem, Lydi.. There's such a sense of coming and going, almost reaching somewhere.. then, slipping backwards, going higher then lower, then... pausing, swivelling.. and more! You mention 'a derailed dream' and that it certainly could be.. but also, for me.. if i may, could be Life and all its lessons and the eventual safe haven. Perhaps.

You are welcome, always...:)..............
This reminds me of those first love moments. When you notice everything around...all things are alive and bursting with energy from the love you have inside. Part of you knowing it isn't forever.....but hoping you never have to let go. This is a superb write...

Poetic recollection glimpses of a more vibrant life experience – the shades of love my fade with time, but the memories live on most effervescent … lovely penned piece …. :-)

Thanks so much, Phill. Lydi**
i know the adventure ..but it is so sad ..your poem is so sad to me :( there is so much unfinished business in a derailed dream .. circumstances....personal choices ... ohhhhhh hell :(
and i so relate to the "wouldn’t have wanted it any other way" .. in fact we still talk from time to time ;) this right here:
"you were perpetual motion
i was insatiable energy" is a bee hive asking to be poked ...
where the hell is my stick? ;))))
