vibrant

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by hessam abrishami

the colors were more vibrant then

stars sat on the horizon twinkling just for us

the wind put wheels on palm fronds

allowing us to drive to who knew

            or who cared

                        where

every moment was an adventure

you were my sustenance

through so many mouth-watering days

                        and nights

the florescent glow of a gas station’s neon sign

served as a lighthouse

leading us to the next wonderful experience

the next memory to be made

you were perpetual motion

i was insatiable energy

looking back i can see it all clearly

we were stowaways on a derailed dream

but it was our dream

we made everything out of nothing

truth is

even though it had to end

i wouldn’t have wanted it any other way

This is delicious & sweetly melancholy, perfectly describing my wanderlust youth & the yearning to take the next road trip with a dedicated companion. Your details are brightly crafted to bring back memories in even more VIBRANT hues than ever before! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Kind, sweet and wonderful words for love.

To be stowaways in the arms of love. No better place to know. Thank you dear Lydia for sharing the amazing poetry.

Was a amazing poem my friend.
Sometimes we engage in these relationships spontaneously without inhibitions and those times are often the best and most loved memories we keep for always..

Indeed, Stella. Thank you for your review. Lydi**
dear Lydia... "a gas station's neon sign was a lighthouse" a young person's romance... a reason to dance... every moment was an adventure... no one to censure... a drivers license newly signed. "We were stowaways in a derailed dream.." As sweet as ice cream.

it's hard to
maintain vibrant
neon almost says
the painting was more
cheep- but somehow it was more
than a blinking sign- it was life.

Thanks so much, Galadriel. Lydi**
The most important part of looking back on your adventure, is that you sit in the now, saying you wouldn't have it any other way. That is true beauty, to see beauty after it has passed and the smile the memory brings.
Beautifully worded Lydi, capturing the essence of a memory lived.
Love the pic too, haven't heard of the artist before, so will hopefully find more of their work online. :)
