and that's how it goes

and that's how it goes

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

a very ordinary poem for a very special friend's birthday. curt, you rock!

"
"early morning blues and greens" courtesy of rippingham art

artistic freedom walks

the lonely boulevard of insomnia

attached to my ankle like a ball and chain

thoughts float like apparitions

through the swinging doors of my psyche

linen stationery patiently waits

for ink of gold yet i am only able

to offer worthless tin

thing is

on the anniversary of your birth

you deserve only the finest

yet words in my mouth taste like water

when i search for the finest wine

so i take a handful of sun mixed with love

and splash it on the page

just to see what sticks

i dance around the room

to the beat of our friendship

a smile crawls onto my lips

so the thing is

this is your birthday poem

life is what it is

and i’m glad you’re in mine

and that’s how it goes!

This is a beautiful tribute to Curt, someone I've been missing for awhile now (hope he's doing OK). It's a coincidence that I'm reading this & noticing his b-day must be coming up again right soon! Maybe I'll go check out his page & see if I've missed anything new from him. I love the way your b-day poem feels so matter-of-fact, the way two old friends can be completely real together without pretense. After all, we never have the right words to say on such occasions! *sigh!* (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

dear Lydi, to find a friend in poetry would be like
fine wine, the bouquet of which would be charming.
Dancing on the edge of eternity... sharing rhymes and distant chimes. An endearing celebration of a friend in tune with the universe. truly, Pat

life, it wouldn't be the same without you Lydi, your friendship is much appreciated and held close to my heart...

I do not believe I have ever read an "ordinary" poem written by you Lydi, and this one, well this one is especially "nice", yes I am biased since it is for me, but really, the poem is simply stated and yet deeply felt by anyone who reads it...

I love these words, "so i take a handful of sun mixed with love
and splash it on the page
just to see what sticks"... what "sticks" is an extraordinary friendship that allows me to dance and appreciate your "tin" (though I suspect you are an alchemist turning this tin into gold and fine wine)...

it's an amazing poem and you Lydi are an amazing friend... thank you for being in my life...

curt
ps... I almost forgot, the art work is wonderful, I am going to save it, thank you...
