the fabric of you

the fabric of you

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by stanislav sugintas

like my favorite worn sweater

i pull the warmth of your friendship

over my head each morning

as the sun grows over the horizon

some would say its color clashes

with the ivory skin it snuggles against

but it complements me

caressing me like priceless french silk

the truth is deep inside me

were only silent phrases

till the words were spoken in your voice

simple words perhaps

but your voice transformed them

into an orchestra of beauty

those memorable syllables

can’t be found in any dictionary

save the one that resides within my heart

so, yes, each morning i linger with your friendship

procrastinating over coffee and dreams

entertaining myself with the attraction

reveling in the fabric of you

I love the way you equate fabric with friendship. The multiple layers of it. The colours of it and the feel of it against the skin. wonderful use of metaphor Lydi.

Thank you very much, Ken. Lydi**
A gorgeous ode to the family that we choose for ourselves Lydia. They give voice to our fears and desires and they encourage us because they are on our wavelength. Cut from the same cloth, as they say.
I saw that you had posted a poem and this being Friday and all *wink wink* - but I got such a warm hug from this one that I'll let you off, lol.
