piquant

piquant

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by charmaine olivia

i inhale your memory like the salty sea air of morning

my mind’s eye jumps from engagingly stimulating moments

            to your provocative charm

                        to your savory appeal

you were an addiction

just like my smokes and drink

but now it’s too late to rewrite history

expletives roll off my tongue even as i remember your flavor

           i savor the memory

                        the zesty spice of you

a piquant ambrosia that seemed unattainable

                                    even unmanageable at first

then billowed like a sail on the day we said goodbye

I love the way you've used vivid imagery to suggest that the memory of this lover is a mixed bag of emotions & responses. I could picture & feel everything as your words drew a relatable picture. So many awesome word choices: "piquant ambrosia" . . . "unattainable, even unmanageable" . . . so true to life!

your closing totally surprised me ;} well done says i! great title and use of it in closing .. such classy sexy in your lines ...and between :) from title right to "salty sea..." then to one's own mind .. and i like the nitty gritty of "smokes and drink" ..just an all around fine poem in my mind

The ones who step into your life for a while.
But leave a lifetime of memories.
They are the ones who leave their mark.

Yes, it is. She's a beauty. :)
Once again a beautiful write, Lydi :-)
Even as a reader I could also recall the memories of past and relive those moments through this write. We all grow in life through experiences and these memories are proofs of our journey ahead.
Your romantic writes are always filled with rhythmic beauty and this has flavors too in it. A cherishable write.
I loved and enjoyed reading this :-)

Gorthi, I appreciate your kind review. Thank you. Lydi**
Memories stay there for all. But blessed are those who can relive those moments and bring them out so beautifully in style and flavor doing justice to those feelings with their literary eloquence. You are a master in balancing the beauty and emotion in your poetry. This write makes us tap the door of past to browse our own..
Thank you, Lydi for this piquant ambrosia.
