piquant

piquant

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by charmaine olivia

i inhale your memory like the salty sea air of morning

my mind’s eye jumps from engagingly stimulating moments

            to your provocative charm

                        to your savory appeal

you were an addiction

just like my smokes and drink

but now it’s too late to rewrite history

expletives roll off my tongue even as i remember your flavor

           i savor the memory

                        the zesty spice of you

a piquant ambrosia that seemed unattainable

                                    even unmanageable at first

then billowed like a sail on the day we said goodbye

I love the way you've used vivid imagery to suggest that the memory of this lover is a mixed bag of emotions & responses. I could picture & feel everything as your words drew a relatable picture. So many awesome word choices: "piquant ambrosia" . . . "unattainable, even unmanageable" . . . so true to life!

.
Very well written!

Lovingly worded and expressed with a flow that makes the reader feel your emotions.

All that once was, and now shall never be, fades to memory, yet always lingers in the senses to remind us of all that we once had .

A very lovely poem.

The above lines are true. Additions make us want more. Dangerous or not. Thank you Lydia for sharing the excellent poetry.

dear Lydi... "billowed like a sail on the day we said 'goodbye' ". The sunsets on the shimmering sea must paint colors of your feelings for all eternity. Your poetry is romantic and I must catch my breath. truly, Pat

It is said that the sense of smell will bring back old memories quicker than any other. Let me get a whiff of patchouli and there's no telling where I'm off to. Good write, Lydi.
