freedom to forget

freedom to forget

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

announcing the entrance

of a new year

crickets sit on the windowsill

chirping a staccato serenade

bold moon shadows are determined

to scandalously drape themselves

over places he journeyed

vivid memories warm me

evoking long hidden responses

while heartlessly robbing me

of the freedom to forget

Wow do I love the overall premise of this poem. So many times I've wished for the freedom to forget. Such a brilliant idea. And it's so awesome the way you start out with an innocent overall observation such as the new year, but then the focus intensifies until you're down to the deepest feelings that can't be throttled (((HUGS)))

Yes, a new year, snow covering the window sills and frosted toes longing for summer and to be warm again. Valentine

Where did the time go...
it is often forgotten as we live daily.

Nice graphic, too.

Indeed, Josie. Thank you for your review. Lydi**
dear Lydi... Crickets on the windowsill... always a reminder of the
thrill of past romance and "the dance".
A new year... where life is clearly unpredictable, however, hope remains
constantly. We have the freedom to
forget and start anew. truly, Pat

Very beautiful and meaningful as always Lydi :-)
Few memories blind you from the core and are really hard to forget.New year brings a tinge of happiness and hope but with the uncertainty of future and unforgettable experiences of past!
Loved the title and description. Keep writing

Thank you, Gorthi. Lydi**
It is inevitable, Lydia... When the new tries to push the old back, the old shows its presence by knocking on and on. The memories will always be there to rob our freedom.thank you for sharing this nice craft...
Happy New Year, Lydia..

So very perfect. New Year's Eve is one of my favorite events of the year, but it also invariably invokes memories I would rather not have, Freedom to forget ... I think everyone could benefit from that freedom at times. ~Jim
