A Poem by Lydia Shutter

seemingly spontaneously

my heart tries to celebrate

magnifying moments of insignificance

drawing circles within circles

connecting the dots of life

staring out the window

while drowning out sounds of nothing at all

needing to be inspired

groping for that spark - that fire

my soul listens for words seldom spoken

trying to mend what has fallen apart

but like a mosaic hit by a hammer

old patterns no longer apply

i really was strong once

now rules have rendered me ineffectual

seemingly spontaneously

A lovely write on questioning oneself, why am i here comes to mind, beautifully written, the flow had me pondering after the read looking out my window. "I really was strong once" seemed a resignation but maybe just a low ebb hopefully passing. I think the window pic was of hope, one of searching, a new direction.

dear Lydi... a way of life with familiar emotions has drifted out to sea where sunrise is encircled with a blue glow.
New footsteps to new doors have opened where the most important things still exist wrapped in love and devotion. truly, Pat

Thank you so much, Pat. Lydi**
I love when the opening line and the closing line of a poem comes full circle! It may seem pretty easy to accomplish, but the poem truly writes itself to fit that way. May God, this is one incredible read!

rules of the heart, rules of writing...being confined by form and formality...

we weaken...our inspiration weakens...we become shells of the positive, driving people we once were.

maybe poets in general are getting cynical about life about writing about writing about it.

and we feel totally ineffectual...

powerful piece, Lydi.

Thank you for "getting" this one, Jacob. I appreciate the review. Lydi**
Sometimes our words feel like fallen apart. Our thoughts tend to go the haywire. Our patterns defy not expectations. We tend to feel ineffectual when down and out. But our insignificance can turn to significance when we find the significant other, when we celebrate love and when we have purpose to live. An excellent write...:).................

You are welcome compellingly. ....:::)))))
This poem actually describes me: anxiety keeps me chained from living in the moment. Great write! And the picture is worth a thousand words alone :D

Thanks, Kelsey. Glad you could identify, but sorry you could too. Lydi**
wow Lydi, this poem is living on the dark side.. "listening for words seldom spoken/ trying to mend what has fallen apart" this is so deeply sad and I was thinking you might be inside my head with these words...

with such fine and deep feeling poetry like this one, it is hard for me to imagine you "rendered ineffectual"... a very moving poem Lydi, and one of my favorites from you... and life is like that, once events happen they do not go back to the way things are, and everything changes....

loved this poem Lydi and hope you are doing okay...
