For only me

For only me

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

Photography by Heike Moller

Sunrise

one step this side of night

the lonely wind blows

seaweed rolls across the sand

kissing but never telling

Just as the sun combs clouds

out of her sky

I shed layers of darkness

My optimism surfs in on the morning tide

sanguine and rosy cheeked

rolling the dice of life now eager to play for all I’m worth

No one can see

for only me, I smile

your title and pic make so much sense to me ... those moments shared with no one ..but more precious because of it .. then the sea, the beach, and organic sweep of seaweeds ... even our vast oceans have roots eh!? ... i just keep re-reading my friend .. :) seems you strike a very distinct edge between the encompassing glory of sunrise and oceans ...with your closing lines .. selfish ;) but too golden and private not to be .. really like your poem ... each time read again .. beautiful says i!

It really is the best kind of therapy for whatever ails you, isn't it? I love spending an entire day there, just filling up the jeep and taking a picnic lunch, playing volleyball and walking out on the pier. Than as the sun begins to set, get the fire pit going with some steaks and baked potatoes. I guess that's where that phrase came from..."life's a beach". It's all there for the taking, and doesn't require much money at all.

I liked how you tied the scenario of the beach into this, Lydi. The sun "combing clouds out of her sky", and your optimism "surfing in on the morning tide". If I close my eyes, I could almost smell the salt of the air and hear the cresting of the waves upon the shore. What an image you've perfected!

Must be a pleasure just living near the beach. But i suppose the sun over the water must be something special.

YUP....deal!
A beautiful and hopeful poem. I love the beach at 5 am in the morning. I would walk the coastline and enjoy the sound of the sea. Wait for the sun. Thank you dear Lydia for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome dear Lydia.
Nothing like it indeed. The oneness we get with beauty and light. The ebbs and flows of small waves touching our imaginations. The shedding of negative thoughts as we roll with the flow of positivism. The kissing and telling to ourselves. Magnificent to say the least...:)..........................
