rolling beads

rolling beads

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

i’ve tried to restring my necklace of memories

carefully leaving the beads of you on the table

(a disowning of sorts I suppose)

but there they are again

like time and eternity holding evil hands

walking into the sunset

(or into the ocean to drown)

instead of sweet silence, i hear dutch melodies

an off key dissonance thrumming through my psyche

you know, i thought you left me with nothing

but you actually left me these memories

an ongoing inheritance

so on this balmy september morn

here i am again collecting rolling beads

September seems to bring a wave of releasing and realising, a gathering of memories and a shaping of us, so I call it :) Those beads will always roll but life has a habit of directing them where they need to be and we piece them together slowly, over time, with new insight and balance, lovely Lydi :)

Reminds me of Fall to Pieces by Velvet Revolver. Hopefully we find the inner strength to pick up the remnants and start over again able to look back at the memories.

I see. Thanks.
What an interesting comparison! I'm now imagining my mind to be this string of beads coming undone, with beads spilling all over the floor as I'm overwhelmed with memories.

Sometimes the more we try to forget a person, the more we cannot. It's quite ironic how it all works. And sometimes, we just want to pick the pieces we left behind to revisit them one more time even though we swore we didn't.

What an interesting thing you wrote here, Lydia! Great one.
