rolling beads

rolling beads

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

i’ve tried to restring my necklace of memories

carefully leaving the beads of you on the table

(a disowning of sorts I suppose)

but there they are again

like time and eternity holding evil hands

walking into the sunset

(or into the ocean to drown)

instead of sweet silence, i hear dutch melodies

an off key dissonance thrumming through my psyche

you know, i thought you left me with nothing

but you actually left me these memories

an ongoing inheritance

so on this balmy september morn

here i am again collecting rolling beads

September seems to bring a wave of releasing and realising, a gathering of memories and a shaping of us, so I call it :) Those beads will always roll but life has a habit of directing them where they need to be and we piece them together slowly, over time, with new insight and balance, lovely Lydi :)

oh man! strong and emotive use of the metaphor ..wow!! stringing beads, they have a way of having their own energy ... popping out of fingers so easily ... :( also easy to picture and feel this one .. well done says i! the frustration of blocking memories gives way to acceptance and growth .. i like this poem a lot!

'.. instead of sweet silence, i hear dutch melodies .. .. .. an off key dissonance thrumming through my psyche .. '

Such a wonderful but sort of sad analogy, Lydi.. a confetti of memories strewn careless in front of you. How they scatter as you try picking them up, how each has its own dullness or glow. Have never thought of beads as memories before but, as you frequently do, you've opened a way into a secret part of the imagination.

Nuff said.

I don't know how you felt when this one was done, but it is probably one of your best ever, I am sorry, not much of a critique, but this just struck such a chord in me. There are memories in this life we would like to erase, but without them we wouldn't be who we are.

Whether the memories be pearls or pebbles they always are there. Just waiting to roll in when the mood tips one way or the other. This is such a gem of a poem Lydi. I love the comparisons drawn. Super.

You are welcome dear Lydia.
I love how you "strung" this all together, how the disarray of beads upon the floor mock the virtual mess our lives become to be, for whatever reason.

You brought it together brilliantly, just like you always do! ; )

How we want to avoid few memories still they come rolling so true ....love the comparison to the string of beads....so many of them making a beautiful necklace ....few which we don't want still a part of this beautiful experience.... we all try to restring them....but they won't be the same without all beads... just like us.... :) thanks for the beautiful poetry

Bravo Lydi,

Another splendid write in which you have most successfully captured a series of poignant and otherwise significant moments in the form of personal memories and have shared them freely for all of us out here to enjoy. All Good Things, N
