some things

some things

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

some memories have vanished now

dropped out of the hole in the pocket of my denims

the ones you said were ready for the trash

all those years ago

i sit here trying to animate the phrases

remembering the silences….their warmth

picturing your smiling eyes loving me from across the room

recapturing your voice through a flashback’s ears

and that smile….the one that lit up my world

yes!

but the truth is seeds of inspiration

have run outside to play in the puddles

they know it is impossible to write you

write us

the way it really was back then

so for now I will just say

i miss you!

some things never really change

So true but really our loved ones are still watching us from somewhere & still they are deeply in love with us and showering blessings for us through God. Loved the photo way much and also the depthness of your words. Thanks Lydia sharing a beautiful memory of your life :) Bless you!

Funny how in dreams now and then I have heard my dads voice saying my name like years ago when he called up the stairway to wake me up for school. I mean a lot of years ago. We never stop missing them. Valentine

That picture just stole my heart right now.Your daddy would be so proud of the beautiful soul you are today, with so much beauty to share with the world. i guess all daughters are their daddy's favorites. Yes, i truly believe some things never change...now matter how many years pass..no matter what experiences come our way. Such a moving tribute. i just have no words.

I relate to this one too- I remember trying to take a mind's eye photograph of my parents in the doorway of their home when they were getting old enough for me to know I didn't have much time left with them. I remember thinking I would store that image in my mind forever, holding onto it for a time I would no longer see them on this earth. The image has faded now like those old photographs when color first came out, more like a ghost image than a real picture. We just can't hang on to it the way it was no matter how hard we try! But as you say, "I miss you. Some things never change." Thanks for a wonderful sharing of your heart.

Oh, how majestic a tribute of memory for your dear daddy!! You have given me a glimpse into a part of your world that tells me a bit of who you are as you describe his smiling eyes loving you from across the room, and oh that smile!!!!!!!! Thanks you a million times for sharing such a profound memory with us!!
The photo of the two of you together easily relays the love felt between the two of you!!

I do understand this poem.

I do the old voices and faces. I have old letters and memories. I believe. Old voices and memories make us wiser if we pay attention and follow their examples. Thank you Lydia for sharing the excellent poetry.

I hope beyond hope my daughter will feel the same way about me in later years. If so my time with her has been well spent and a very special love reciprocated. Such a beautiful piece of writing and as a father very emotional.
