sparks

sparks

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

it's friday night!

"

artwork by andrew atroshenko

catching sparks

as they fly through the air between us

i put them on the lathe of my psyche

to form words

suddenly my world is full of syllables

made up of sparks

i can almost hear them shouting

        “me me choose me”

as i unlock the door of my sensuality

entering a universe of not here - - not there

with a key molded from sumptuous syllables

of course they exist only to express

so now my words have written a poem in which to live

a place that feels like truth and reads like a kiss

a place i now invite you to visit with me

I really love your imagination here . . . catching sparks & putting them on a lathe, then suddenly a world of syllables, like a key to unlock the pleasures of life! This is so surprising & an interesting way to express how the sparks turn into written works! Also, showing the connection between sensual sparks in the beginning and the final 3 lines, which are so affectionate & welcoming!

Welcome my friend
An exceptional poem Lydi. How creative it is, using the widely used metaphor of sparks as a physical occurrence that expresses love. Your vocabulary is exemplary, expressing how love can draw the best out of us - which is also written extremely well, saying that the words spoke between lovers are made of syllables created by those sparks. A wonderful imaginative piece. Thank you for writing this piece as its showed me an 'idea' that I never thought of before.
