my sixth without you

my sixth without you

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

this week a full spectrum of emotions

insinuates itself on my horizon

i still have trouble thinking of you in the past tense

you were such a force in my life

my sound of music on silent days

my smile when the world was frowning

my vase of perfect tulips in turbulent times

and even when the universe was blistered

you always knew what to say

          what to do

to make it all okay again

but now mother's day is here - my sixth one without you

and i just want to disappear between these lines

wear their meaning till the fit is comfortable

then cleanse myself in a fountain of tears

while embracing one undeniable truth

the love you gave me continues to fuel my ever after

i miss you mommy

mother's day 2016

oh my! your poem breaks my heart ...what an enviable closeness "My sixth without you" emotes with your mother ...i have never read a tribute to moms so moving .. well done .. so honest and well written every single word ..wow! reminds me not only of my mom but my aunts i was close to, my childrens mom who passed when they were quite young ...and the times at church we all wanted to disappear as accolades were pronounced but nothing said about those lost to us ... i stopped taking my kids to church on mother's day because of that pain ... your loss is poignant .. well done says i! breaks my heart! :(

Dear Lydia, this is a beautifully wrought poem that shows how such love is everlasting; and truly, that last line gives me the greatest comfort.

God bless.

Hi Lydia at least that is one thing every human has in common "Having a Mamma". This is a lovely poem. I can honestly say it has meant the world to me as my Mamma is now eight years gone. It was truly so personal yet I could relate to it all. Beautiful Thank you. :)

This is so beautiful. Our mothers, if they are good ones, stay with us forever as mom, mommy, or whatever pet name we know them by. It is very hard to remember, but impossible to forget.
