The Promise of PerhapsA Poem by Lydia Shutterromantic fantasyArtwork by Julia Pappas A big ewer basks in the
sun just over the hill embracing eternity’s
minutes each morning it tips ever
so carefully pouring out precisely one
thousand four hundred forty specially selected
segments of time
Memorable though each one
may be I drink in only the ones
designed to sate my longing for your touch your voice your words licking each drop from my
lips the promise of perhaps
inflames my desire
Yes, my darling, I still
wait for that one succulent second the one destined to carry
me back to your arms
