i taste the thunder

i taste the thunder

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork courtesy of arwen arts

a soliloquy of innocence woven through decadence

lulls me this afternoon

i taste the thunder

a mingling of tears and honey

a blending of cacophony and harmony

               a delicacy known to few

a sort of lullaby singing to my blind heart

i am willing to listen

but refuse to remember only darkness

while dismissing the light

too many feel the pain of heartbreak more

than they originally felt the love

too many swim through the quicksand of grief

refusing a lifeline when it is thrown

pain fills the vacuum refusing entrance to pleasure

i taste the thunder

savoring its exotic flavor

What "muscle" would you build without the exercise of real life living. What understanding would you have of anything but your own selfish pleasure without the experience of pain and sorrow. Where would be the compassion and love in your heart for others? You are so wise :)

We do tend to forget the beauty of love and cannot forget the pain. This is a very powerful message and a positive outlook. Let us enjoy the thunder as well. Let us remember both, the darkness and the light.

Wonderful flowing write,if only most would not take love for granted,it isn't always handed to you. It's a blessing when love walks through your heart, few find true love.Sometimes only remembering the pain and not the wonder of love;-]

Thank you very much for the lovely review. Lydi**
I guess one could think of your words as being philosophical
to allot for pain to be experienced
but never allow it the driving wheel

i see much wisdom here

I appreciate your review, River. Thank you. Lydi**
I love your beautifully crafted message & I concur that many do seem to focus on the heartbreak more than the splendor of love. However, I also love the contrasts of love & life, which you've illustrated here in your word paintings. I usually remember a friendship or love as being much better than it really was! *smile*

Time rewrites things...Barbra Streisand knew that when she sang, "The Way We Were". thanks so much .. read more
"i am willing to listen
but refuse to remember only darkness
while dismissing the light"- I like the conflict here and your perspective; I am reminded of the poem "The Two Voices" by Tennyson, with its themes of whether to give into good or evil (hope or despair).

Skilled, smooth and loveable write. I love your choice of words, on point and intelligent. "I taste the thunder" is such an adorable line. Well done piece of poetry. I enjoyed reading it very much.

Wow, Al! What can I say but, "thank you so much!" Lydi**
I almost felt that it went on too long-
i think you had enough at ending with
than they originally felt the love

The first part was so striking- no pun intended :)
