one more time

one more time

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

as slippery as soap in the bath

you slid in and out of my life

how many times did i climb

a jacob’s ladder of tender words

back into your arms?

do you remember?  oh, i do!

stars fell out of the sky

yet you always caught them for me

sweet and contented would i be

for just THAT much time

till i remembered all the reasons

we could never be together

thing is

this afternoon

here

now

those reasons all disappear

once again i hold the conch shell we found to my ear

hoping to hear your voice one more time

Elusive love is often the sweetest, yet ironically can become rather bittersweet in taste !

Reflective romance, penned with an aching heart and so utterly charming Lydia ! 💔

Yes, we always have sweet memories of that which we never quite attained. You know it, Tom. Thanks.. read more

Thank you very much, Woody. Lydi**
I really like this poem. It's kind of bittersweet, but not in a sad way. Great job :D

Thank you, Kelsey Ann. I appreciate your review. Lydi**
Oh lydi, you have a way of painting your heart that is divine. I love the way this makes me think of someone in my life...but in a more magical way. There is a sweet ding that lights up in my mind when I read your poetry, it is so relatable. you have spoken of humanness, and it is so at the very essence of your poetry.

Sometimes people just can't be together and yet, their love is so passionate. Labeling them as temporary just does not do their love justice. Amazing write!

such tender and sweet words of emotion are held in your poem Lydi... I could see that "conch shell", hear the voices and giggles, could even see the soap slip sliding away, not able to be grasped as it vanished beneath the sudzy water (all those reasons)... how could you not yearn for "one more time", sorry for your loss Lydi and yet isn't it nice to have such memories to remind us of how we lived and grew because of it!!?? it isn't often that someone will catch those stars for you...

I found a conch shell for you and your "very nice" poem Lydi, wanna listen?

Indeed, Curt, every person who walks into our lives leaves us with memories...be they good or bad. .. read more
yes, i see the parallel completely...in future we might look back with another "what if" and wonder why we were so scared to jump into the tub...

what can so easily slip away, could have been gripped tightly....

Exactly...thanks for the review, Jacob. Lydi**
We find comfort in memories of past love. The reasons they didn't become present sometimes disappear when it is renewed. I found your words both romantic and touching. Thank you Lydi for making this day better.

Even if things don't come together as we had hoped, clinging to a voice or scent is common when you miss someone. I find your words to be soft and inviting. I don't know why but I do. I see a lost hope in this. She knows it will never be and yet, she looks for any grain of evidence he still cares. A lovely though sad poem.
