one more time

one more time

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

as slippery as soap in the bath

you slid in and out of my life

how many times did i climb

a jacob’s ladder of tender words

back into your arms?

do you remember?  oh, i do!

stars fell out of the sky

yet you always caught them for me

sweet and contented would i be

for just THAT much time

till i remembered all the reasons

we could never be together

thing is

this afternoon

here

now

those reasons all disappear

once again i hold the conch shell we found to my ear

hoping to hear your voice one more time

Sad and beautiful in one package. Very touching and relatable. Remembering the sights and sounds. Contemplating the reasons and contentions. An excellent one, Miss Lydia...:)....................

'.. i hold the conch shell we found to my ear -- hoping to hear your voice one more time - oh my.

There are memories and keepsakes that somehow etch deep into the heart; their meanings, how they came about, never really leave but if they did, how strange, how lonely, we might be.. as you so beautifully describe.

Your writing - whatever the theme is always both comfort and inspiration. Your conch shell must be magical.. has to be, its voice whispers the world, dear Lydi..

All those reasons seem like a wall of fact and yet at times they seem like a fog of fiction...
If only there could be "one more time"... and another... and another...
Lovely poetry Lydi.

Indeed, one more time is never enough. Thank you, David. Lydi**
With loving memories to reflect on, you forget the bad moments and saviour the good. This is a lovely romantic write, just spot on with the imagery. So touching!

If we arent allowed to romanticise our own memories well what's the blooming point of having them follow us around then - better off just dumping them.
Have you ever heard of a play called 'Philadelphia Here I come!" by Brian Friel, Lydia?

I studied it as a boy in school and this poem you've penned brought that back to mind and made me laugh. Not because they were great times but because I too am now romanticising about how wonderful it was to be studying plays when I was 14-15 years old and I know for a fact that I hated it at the time!!

I loved this my dear Lydia.

No, I have not heard of that play. We seldom appreciate our teenage years...or our twenties. Right.. read more

You too, Anto.
Sigh, this is so sad but the loneliness comes at us in beautiful shapes and forms that touch the heart in so many ways. How can something so beautiful be so sad? At least she still has that shell, something of this love left behind so that she never forgets, which is sad in itself. Incredibly beautiful writing.
