of paradox and possibility

of paradox and possibility

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by jim tsinganos

life is a mélange of paradox and possibility

here i am squeezing logic out of incongruities

all the while editing the final draft of my life

but i just have to smile

at the silence of the sounds

and the noise within the quiet

it’s all there for my entertainment pleasure

so i will dance to mortality’s tune

and walk beyond the perimeter of happiness

all the while rolling cigarettes out of dreams

                                    ones i may never smoke

but, hey tomorrow is a possibility…

and tonight that’s enough for me

The entire essence of the life of a thinking and feeling human being is encapsulated in these few choice and eloquent lines. The way we try to justify everything at the end, knowing there were imperfections. The trick is to smile at those imperfections, as you so beautifully pointed out here. The other part I loved is the one about rolling cigarettes out of dreams, that we may never smoke. Having dreams is what matters. I just loved your view on life here, worded so simply and beautifully. Its a pleasure to read your poetry again.

Lydia. What a wonderful poem; and what a very, very apt title. Life is indeed full of paradox and possibility, but as you say, ultimately we dance to mortality's tune and just hope that during our three score year and ten we find happiness and contentment.

I don't smoke, but this makes we want to try just the once.

Absolutely enjoyed and related to these marvellously insightful lines.

Beccy.

Walking out of happiness and still can smile is the essence, the trumpets of quiet moments of heart is more rhythmic and captivating than any music or dance floors especially dreams comes in to play, beautifully worded and gives great leverage for readers to dive deep in to this poem as much as they can, enjoyed each word, congrats

This is awesome,ma'am. This very notion of life is indeed vivid and truthful especially when you "...smile at the silence of the sounds and the noise within the quiet." "...Rolling cigarettes out of dreams..." It's wow!

I stopped on mélange considerably longer than I should have because it is a wonderful sound to savour. There is no resignation here - resolve to enjoy Life instead. This is the only way to live. Love the sass Lydia. Welcome back my friend. :))

Your face has such a beautiful glow; your smile is welcoming, warm; and your words are like a candle flickering bright to guide one safely through the storm. Our humanity is a wisp of time. The trick is to latch on to a star. Love this!
