monochrome bland

monochrome bland

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

anne darling photography

the evening wraps me
in thunderous echos
of what once was
guiding winds lead me
to the tunnel of years
‘tis true
this is the true museum
of unequaled cave paintings
which can only be interpreted
by multicolored velvety waves of memory
but they dare not pass go
or collect $200- even
because in the here and now
even savory multicolored memories
are harshly converted
to monochrome bland

A lovely write. Wonderfully used metaphors throughout. "even savory multicolored memories,
are harshly converted, to monochrome bland" what a very imaginative and exquisitely apt description. There are countless thoughts this can bring together into this one poem, from things like a very precious memory fading to serious problems such as Dementia. Though you may not have done this on purpose and many people might think little of it, I love the use of a 'cave' and Monopoly - something really old and something relatively new (long term memory and short term memory etc). A wonderful piece.

there are memories that are considered golden - that is timeless, especially the precious kind with our loved ones - no one can take it away from us, but only time itself

A very different read, I must say. There were more pauses when I read, simply because I felt the poet has stopped as well thinking contemplating then continuing on with the thoughts. Appreciation of life comes to my mind? Maybe long time back down the memory lane, where things so vivid, so colorful yet the present state of the poet makes the whole experience bland, a fleeting feeling whether those memories truly appreciated or not. But that said, colors can always be brought in one's monochromatic life, after all we are the ones who paint our lives with the colors we want to ^^ This read sent me in another dimension. I liked it much. Thank you for sharing ^^

Your welcome ^^
When the eye is blind, it will not see...
I am thinking "third eye" here, but to feel in a "monochrome" state of mind is like eating food through a feeding tube... It might keep you alive, but what's the point of adding flavors?
When we have the ability to appreciate what life has to offer, maybe it is then we will receive it? IDK... One hopes to be worthy and receptive to receive the colors of life.
A delight to read Lydi!

You are a pleasure to "see". Thank you again for sharing your lovely gifts of inspiration.
But how vital those memories are, monochrome bland or otherwise. Imagine if we were not blessed with such a gift; how quickly our lives would become less than the blink of an eye.

A unique view and quite brilliantly put. T

What clever turn of phrases in this one! Memories will be memories... something intangible, far off. This is a true poetic masterpiece, my friend. You take the common thought and say it the uncommon way. Beautiful, reflective, and a Lydi classic in every way!

Hope you don't end in jail, liked the references between the more or less today and the long ago, like the etched paintings in a cave!

Multicolored memories are the true museum. Some are bland and some are vibrant. Your poetry has that multicolored beauty...:)..........

Some memories are good to fade, others, sad to leave. In the end all the colors mix together to grey. But...you said it soooo poetically. Amazing, Lydi!

A monopoly of one you are dear friend, when it comes to unraveling the inner world to the eye of the reader. Not to be able to pass go, and not even collect the hard earned currency of Life because of the impenetrable cruel bleakness.
Excellent write dear friend! :D
