my mood

my mood

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

father's day is difficult for me every year

"
1956 Atlantic City

my mood
is like an empty chair
rocking on a porch
do you see it there - - near the seaside?
it's waiting to be filled

today i’ve decided to borrow your mirth
adopt the spring in your step
espouse your optimistic view of life
then stand back to admire
the view from the terrace

the humid breeze generously delivers
flower scented air to the veranda
while a tired smile plays on my lips
it’s all good - - because you were my daddy

This is a beautiful tribute to your dad, Lydi...I lost mine late last year and though I had opportunity to spend a lot of time with him, I do wish I could have had more and there are days I feel like that chair, empty and other times filled... at least we have memories :)

Thank you for understanding, my friend.
Very beautiful words of life and your hero that you looked up to. My daughter I had not seen for some time for reasons I will not go into, but when I heard after many years the words from her lips "Daddy", I cried.

Thanks you for a beautiful tribute.

I can imagine....no better words to be heard than "mommy" or "daddy". thanks, Willard. Lydi**
So moving. Sometimes the best gift you can give to someone is the way you craft your words and memories. Lots of love xx

Cherish those memories.

I missed out on having a dad,
but I got to start with a clean slate at trying to be one.

It isn't easy being a dad, but It isn't hard to love a child.

You are a very good dad. It comes naturally! Thank you very much, Trace. Lydi**
Lydia. To have such wonderful memories is gift that lasts for all time. To daughters, fathers are very special. My dad is sixty eight now and at this time I gratefully accept each passing year and try not to think of the inevitable cycle of life.

A heartfelt and lovely poem. Beccy.

No matter how big we become, we always remain our daddy's little girl. this was heartbreaking to read, my friend. i'm glad you have these wonderful memories of him. our parents are always such a huge part of our lives, and no matter how much we think we have savored those times with them, it is never enough isnt it. thank you for sharing that beautiful photo, and this beautiful poem that will linger in my mind for many days to come. i feel your soul in this.

Sent a tremor through my soul.
Would that all children, everywhere, could feel this way about their fathers.
What a far better world we'd live in!

It is very emotional write expressed with great flow, can visualize easily the relationship between daughter and the dad, my daughter likes my husband million times than me even if I am her closest friend compared to him.
